NC Arboretum Winter Wedding Photos

Alyssa and Andrew were originally set to be married on January 26, 2026 — but Mother Nature had other plans.

A winter snowstorm swept through just before their wedding day, covering the NC Arboretum in ice. Instead of stressing, they did what I always tell my couples is the secret to a beautiful wedding day: they stayed flexible. They moved everything back one day… and it turned into something absolutely magical.

A True Winter Wonderland Wedding

When we arrived at the arboretum, delicate ice was still clinging to the trees and gardens. It was cold — the kind of crisp mountain cold that turns cheeks rosy and makes couples hold each other just a little tighter — but it was breathtaking.

Winter weddings in North Carolina can be unpredictable — but when they work out like this, they are unforgettable.

Romantic, Intimate, and Uniquely Them

Because of the weather shift, the entire day felt even more intentional. They embraced the beauty of the moment rather than worrying about the cold.

There’s something about winter weddings that slows everything down. It feels quieter. More intimate. Almost cinematic.

Why I Love Photographing Winter Weddings at the Arboretum

As a wedding photographer, snowy weddings are rare in Western North Carolina — and that makes them incredibly special. The North Carolina Arboretum already offers beautiful gardens, mountain views, and structured landscapes. Add snow and ice to the mix, and it becomes a completely different scene.

The textures.
The light.
The stillness.

It was the perfect backdrop for a couple willing to embrace the unexpected.

Planning a Winter Wedding in Asheville?

If you’re considering a January or winter wedding in Asheville, here’s the honest truth: flexibility is everything. Weather can change quickly in the mountains — but sometimes those last-minute adjustments lead to the most beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime photos.

Alyssa and Andrew’s wedding is proof that even when plans shift, the story can become even better than imagined.

And if it snows?
Lean into it. ❄️

It might just turn your wedding day into something unforgettable.
